On the hills of San Marco and Santa Teresa, connected by a flat saddle, lie the remains of the ancient acropolis of Cossyra. Here, traces of Punic walls, defensive terraces, and cisterns carved into the rock are preserved, forming part of a complex water system. The area has yielded elements from the Punic, Roman, and Imperial periods, including sculptures, capitals, and the famous portraits of Caesar, Antonia Minor, and Titus. Likely serving as the center for political and religious functions of the ancient island, it retains monumental structures and the road axis leading to the lower city.
