In the Gibbiuna wood, along the rim of the Monastero Caldera, lie ancient rock-cut tombs. Dating to the Byzantine era, they feature varied shapes: some taper at the head and foot, while others are more regular with chamfered corners. These burials belong to a necropolis spread across the island, first identified in 1899 by archaeologist Paolo Orsi. Set in a silent landscape among holm oaks, they offer a poignant testament to Pantelleria’s ancient history.
