The Lake of Venus, or Mirror of Venus, is a volcanic lake located in the northern part of the island of Pantelleria, within the National Park, which also contains natural mud deposits. It has an elliptical shape (approximately 450 × 350 m) and a maximum depth of 12 m. It is fed by three thermal springs, with water temperatures between 35 and 58 °C, as well as by rainfall. The area is an important habitat for migratory birds. Archaeological excavations have revealed the remains of an ancient Bronze Age temple. In the past, the lake’s shores hosted traditional races with horses and mules.
