Montagna Grande (836 m) is the highest peak of Pantelleria and the heart of the National Park. A woodland of holm oak and maritime pine covers the ancient volcanic cone. Trails and mule tracks lead to the summit, a natural balcony overlooking the roughly 50 secondary craters of the island. The undergrowth hosts heather, broom, rosemary, oregano and, in autumn, mushrooms. The route is accessible year-round, making it ideal for trekking and landscape observation.
