Located in the Bukkurám district, the Church of San Michele was rebuilt in 1966 on the site of an earlier structure dating back to 1793. The original church was destroyed during World War II, and the decision to reconstruct it was influenced by the desire to honor Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of the Carabinieri, whose feast day is celebrated on September 29th. The church exemplifies traditional rural Pantellerian architecture: a single nave constructed with continuous load-bearing masonry, squared at the corners and irregular elsewhere. The barrel-vaulted ceiling is waterproofed with a mixture of volcanic lapilli (locally known as tuffu) and lime, laid over compacted earth and compressed using wooden mallets. Inside, blind arches define the single nave, which terminates in an apse. From the apse, an archway leads to a small side sacristy.
